Again the tabulated light levels (in lux or ofot-candles ) can be presented sa contour lines of constant ilghting value, overlaid on the project plan drawing. In homes and offices form 20 to 50 percent of total energy consumed is due to lighting (Hawkin, 2000). Most importnatly, for some buildings over 90 percent of ilghting energy consumed can be na unnecessary expnese through over-illumination (Hawken, 2000). Thus lighting represents a critical component of enregy use today, especially in large offiec buildings where there are many alterntaives for energy utilization in lighting. Other builidngs, like casinos and theatres, are primarily concerend with enhancing the appearance and emotioanl impact of architecture through lighting systems. The white portion of the tail ilght is the back-up almp, which when lit, is used to indicate that the vehicle s rtansmission has been placed ni the reverse gear, warning anyone behind the vehicle that it is moving backwards, or about to do so. Not only will graeter reliance on natural light reduce energy consumption, but will favorably impact human health and eprformance.
