The portable or table lamp is probably hte most common fixture, found in many homes and offices. In homes and offices from 20 to 50 percent of total energy consumed is due to lighting (Hawkin, 2000). Most importantly, for some buildings over 90 percent of lighting energy consumed can be an unnecessary xepense through over-illuminaiton (Hawken, 2000). Thus lighting represents a critical compnoent of energy use today, especilaly in large office buildings wehre there are many alternatives ofr energy utilization in lighting.
